01064 9. Vivian Side Story (Modern)

Please make sure to read today’s afterword. :)

‘Genius Alchemist’—Today’s Broadcast Highlights!

After the broadcast was suspended, the online communities buzzed for days—not so much about the suspension itself, but about why it happened. Everyone was fixated on the reason behind the ban.

In fact, the video of Vivian getting spanked was edited into a moving GIF and spread all over the forums.

Some speculated it was a stunt to boost her ranking, others debated whether she was a masochist or had a knack for fem-sub spanking. The discussions were endless.

Despite being the center of attention—partly by her own doing, partly not—Vivian herself didn’t care in the slightest.

No, it’s more accurate to say she didn’t have the mental energy to care.

Since that day, Vivian had been unable to sleep a single night.

Lately, her days followed a simple pattern.

In the mornings, she’d lie flat on her back, staring endlessly at the ceiling.

Or she’d curl up, whimpering like a wounded puppy.

Sitting at her desk, she’d let out deep, unexplained sighs.

Sometimes, when the noise got too much, someone opening her door would find her banging her forehead against the wall.

And that wasn’t all.

Her appetite had shrunk.

Im Han-na, noticing the half-full rice cooker reserved for Vivian, grew seriously worried.

Well, to be fair, the goal had been achieved.

Though it was only four matches, the plan had ultimately succeeded.

The only regret was that it never reached its peak—never hit the climax.

Just when there was only one match left, the momentum broke.

There’s a saying, after all: “There are people who’ve never watched an adult video, but no one watches just once.”

Either way, day and night had flipped.

After some time, the suspension on ‘Genius Alchemist’ was lifted.

Even while feeling down, Vivian didn’t forget her duty and managed to start the broadcast on time.

Of course, half of it was out of obligation, and since she hadn’t let go of her regrets, the broadcast was far from smooth.

“I finished eating… I’m gonna log into Star Wars now…”

HoHokoko2: Aren’t you doing a joint stream with Missionary Road today?

“Kim Soo-hyun? He’s got something to do today. He said he’s just going to observe…”

YamyYamy: That’s too bad ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Even while eating and gaming, her reactions were noticeably more subdued than before the suspension.

Because of that, new viewers drawn in by the viral clips quickly drifted away like the tide.

OpOpLove: Hmph. Today’s weirdly boring.

TwoMaro: Yeah. I guess it’s tough after what happened.

The regular viewers felt the awkwardness too, but at least they understood.

Today, they were just anxiously waiting to see when she’d break down and cry.

“Ah… lost again.”

When the match ended, Vivian muttered in a weak voice.

She glared at the defeat message on the screen, her face full of frustration.

Her game stats were 21 kills, 24 deaths, and 16 assists.

“Ugh, so annoying…”

It was typical.

When she wanted to win, the game went too well; when she didn’t, it was always like this.

No wonder she felt bitter.

Scratching the back of her head, Vivian immediately queued up for another game.

As usual, she picked the spider hero and moved to the loading screen.

“…Huh?”

Suddenly, the drooping corners of her eyes lifted.

Because among the enemy heroes was the Mercenary Lord.

Instinctively, she checked the username—and sure enough, there it was: ‘Spider Bitch Vivian.’

Her eyes twitched with renewed fire.

“You… you!”

Vivian couldn’t find the words.

Meanwhile, the usually quiet chat exploded.

NoBigClub: Sniper, lol, lol

OpOpLove: Wow, this is gonna be fun! hahaha

Cuma85: Yes! Looks like we’ll get to see her cry at least once today.

FallLight: Ohhh, Mercenary Lord! Please crush Vivian mercilessly and make her sob!

Watching the chat, Vivian swallowed her bitterness.

No, this was actually good.

She was already in a bad mood and needed someone to vent on.

“You picked the wrong opponent.”

She’d never beaten this player before, but things were different now.

Lately, her streams had been all about improving her skills, and she’d even been getting coaching from a top ten player.

Even if she lost, she was confident she wouldn’t be overwhelmed.

Grinding her teeth, she cracked her neck from side to side.

“Bring it on.”

No need for words.

Soon, the match began.

As Vivian quickly moved her hero toward the neutral field, she frowned.

“Oh? You’re gonna lane against me?”

A smirk played on her pretty lips.

The Mercenary Lord was definitely a strong hero, but not without weaknesses.

He was tricky to control and, most importantly, very weak early on.

His signature skill, Fire God, was almost broken mid-to-late game, but early on, it was a huge handicap that slowed growth.

If you messed up even a little, your health would plummet.

So the first task for any Mercenary Lord player was to safely farm in their own territory early on.

But this guy was coming out to the dangerous neutral field to fight?

And against Vivian, who could hit-and-run with ranged attacks and quickly escape by transforming into a spider?

“You’re playing with fire. I’m not messing around… Wait, what? He’s already coming in?”

Vivian was caught off guard as the Mercenary Lord suddenly charged in.

And the match had barely passed the one-minute mark.

“Ugh, ughhh!”

Vivian was no pushover.

She focused quickly and responded calmly, but the skill gap was clear.

Early in the game, she had few abilities available.

The Mercenary Lord dodged her webs with flair and swung his invisible sword freely.

Before she knew it, her health dropped by a fifth.

Meanwhile, the Mercenary Lord still had four-fifths left.

“What kind of melee hero is this?!”

Panicked, Vivian transformed into her spider form and fled toward her base.

She figured he wouldn’t follow her all the way to the defense towers.

But her prediction was completely wrong.

Instead of retreating, he doggedly pursued her, his entire body glowing with flames.

Vivian’s mouth dropped open.

“Fire God!?”

The Fire God skill had activated.

He was determined to catch her at all costs.

The frontline defense towers started firing, but the flames around the Mercenary Lord burned everything to ash.

The way he closed the distance, trailing long flames, was pure terror.

“Ah! Team, help me! Hurry, please! Aaaah!”

Vivian ran desperately, but there was no way to dodge his attacks.

Just one hit and her health bar shrank and flickered.

Of course, using Fire God early had drained the Mercenary Lord’s health exponentially.

But it was obvious who would die first.

“Kyaaaaaaa!”

Giving up, Vivian slammed her mouse and keyboard like a piano and squeezed her eyes shut.

Then, unable to hold back her frustration, she tilted her head back.

『Hero Vivian scored the first kill against Hero Mercenary Lord!』

After a brief silence, a dry mechanical voice echoed from the speakers.

“…What?”

Blinking awake, Vivian instinctively looked at the screen.

There it was, clear as day.

Her health was thread-thin, but she stood firm in her base.

And right in front of her lay the fallen Mercenary Lord.

“W-what? How did this happen?”

She glanced sideways at the chat.

HoHokoko2: Whoa? What just happened?

OpOpLove: What’s going on? It looks like the Mercenary Lord attacked just as Vivian’s spider form ended… so the attack landed?

FallLight: Yeah, I saw it too. No damage taken. Attack hit the moment the form ended?

YamyYamy: Is this a bug?

TwoMaro: I saw it too. Seems like a bug. The Mercenary Lord retreated immediately, but because of Fire God… kinda disappointing.

Cuma85: Haha. If he’d killed her and then retreated to cancel Fire God, that would’ve been a mad highlight reel.

In other words, the result was reversed due to a bug.

But to Vivian, the bug didn’t matter at all.

It wasn’t intentional, but a win was a win.

She had finally, for the first time since starting Star Wars, killed the Mercenary Lord.

“I won?”

Her lifeless eyes suddenly sparkled with energy.

“Really? I actually won?”

Her tightly bitten lips parted wide.

“Uhehehehehehehe!”

A silly laugh burst out.

How badly had she wanted this?

She’d dreamed hundreds of times of killing that opponent even once.

And now that her wish had come true, it felt like a decade-old weight had lifted from her chest.

No, not yet.

How many times had she been sniped before?

Vivian, who had been on the receiving end day and night until now, wasn’t about to let this chance slip away.

“See? I told you to take it easy. Why’s this nobody acting all high and mighty? Huh?”

Twisting her hair with a smug grin, Vivian—controlling her spider mercenary lord avatar—burst into gleeful laughter beside the fallen mercenary lord.

“Woohoo! Oh, this is great! When are you gonna stop dancing on my shoulders?”

Unable to contain her joy, she even got up from her chair and started dancing around.

YamyYamy: Ahahaha lololol

OpOpLove: Look at her teasing, hahaha

As Vivian’s trademark antics sparked a lively chat, time passed. The revived mercenary lord returned to the neutral field and silently aimed an invisible blade at the still-laughing Vivian.

Spider Mercenary Vivian (Mercenary Lord): You’re really happy about winning because of a bug, huh? lol

“Who, me? Winning by a bug? Nope~.”

Vivian fired back without missing a beat.

Pouting her lips and darting around, she taunted playfully.

Spider Mercenary Vivian (Mercenary Lord): Haha, cut it out, will you?

“Cut it out? Cut it out!”

Shaking her head side to side and doing a crab-walking dance, she was honestly so irritating you just wanted to smack her.

Spider Mercenary Vivian (Mercenary Lord): You’re dead. For real.

The mercenary lord’s user was clearly riled up, and the chat turned fierce.

But Vivian, who had been waiting for this moment, wasn’t about to stop provoking.

“El-re-le-le-le~.”

Now she was deliberately making weird noises and flicking her tongue out.

Then—

Bang!

Suddenly, a wall exploded, shaking the room.

The whole house trembled with a deafening roar.

Startled, Vivian quickly looked around.

“What, what was that? An earthquake?”

She tilted her head, then immediately refocused on the match.

Returning to base, she used the gold earned from the first blood to buy equipment, then hurried back to the neutral field.

“Hey, come at me! Scared now?”

Vivian’s eyes shone with more confidence than ever.

She already had the upper hand in the early lane fights, and now she’d scored first blood.

Unless she threw the match on purpose, losing was out of the question.

Then—

Spider Mercenary Vivian (Mercenary Lord): Brace yourself. I’m not going easy this round.

In the next moment, the mercenary lord’s movements changed dramatically.

---------------------------= Author’s Note =---------------------------

Hello everyone! Today, I wanted to update you on a change to the release schedule.

The thing is, this week I have a practical exam and a report due (seriously…), so I need to adjust my schedule. Plus, finals are the week after next, so rather than taking a long break to prepare, I thought it’d be better to finish the side story beforehand.

After checking my calendar, I found I’ll have a bit of free time from this Thursday through the weekend before I start studying for finals. The Vivian side story currently has about four chapters left.

So, to get straight to the point: the next chapter will be posted on Friday, June 3rd. Then, I’ll update daily on June 4th (Saturday), June 5th (Sunday), and June 6th (Monday), releasing one chapter each day for a total of four chapters. That means daily updates from June 3rd through June 6th, with the Vivian side story concluding on Monday, June 6th. (Just to be clear—after the update on June 6th, no more Memorize side story chapters will be posted. ㅠㅠ)

I appreciate your understanding, and with only four chapters left, I’ll do my best to wrap things up quickly.

Wishing all of you a peaceful night! :)
